Happy Thanksgiving

What I'm thankful for...

It's amazing how much a rewarding job and soulful coworkers have on an optimistic outlook on life. My perspective of course is tinted by the prolonged period of forced unemployment the last two years. I certainly sympathize with the 99% "occupy" protesters, but here in Iowa we'll mainly rely on the power of the ballot to enact change.

I am thankful for having a job.

As I am divorced and living alone, my friends and relatives have been an important part of my life. I enjoy interacting with them mainly through social networking. Although as a devout atheist, I have engaged and challenged those who insist on believing in supernatural entities. They seem to take offense, but I am very comfortable with my views and I have fun with it.

I am thankful for my friends and relatives.

As I experienced a TIA (transient ischemic attack or "mini-stroke) about six years ago, I have managed to recover with no ill effects by changing my diet and lifestyle. The medications I've had  to take due to high blood pressure caused by an enlarged heart have kept my heart beating normally.

I am thankful for a healthy existence and to the Veterans hospitals in the states of Washington and Iowa for the excellent care I receive.

I am mostly thankful that I live in a country that let's us believe and say what we want and engage in the pursuit of happiness when the odds for all are equal. When people's needs are not being met, you get what's happening now all across the country and the world. I hope reason and logic will guide my hand at the ballot box. It's the only power I truly have.

Happy Thanksgiving.

I Found A Job

After close to two years and close to three hundred applications, I have landed a job. The Iowa Department of Transportation has hired me as a Design Technician Specialist in their Photogrammetry Section in Ames. I am thrilled to be able to continue in my chosen field and the location puts me closer to my family and friends in Nebraska. I have friends and relatives in Iowa as well. I'm looking forward to working for the public again as I once worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads. So I must bid a heartfelt goodbye to my friends and family in the state of Washington, but I'll be in touch through the wonderfully powerful social media. And to you in the Midwest, look out, I'm heading your way!

I can still dream

While having my Monte Carlo maintenanced, I was waiting in the dealer's showroom and saw the newest Camaro. My brother thinks I'm crazy to want one with all the problems our economy is having. All I think is it's great to have a dream to reach for. I can think of no other reason to go back to work, other than obtaining food and shelter.
